Selected New Ventures engagements

 

International Farming — Senior Finance Advisor. Kelly was brought in to help the firm scale its finance operations for future growth. The engagement has spanned the transition of the funds from self-administration to a third-party fund administrator, a review of the firm's banking relationships, and the standardization and automation of core finance processes, including the introduction of an outsourced service provider for routine accounting work such as account reconciliations, accounts payable and credit card expense processing.​

Kelly has also advised on strategy and finance for the firm's technology businesses and built a suite of AI-developed finance applications — automating transaction coding, payroll posting and general ledger data flows, and producing cash flow, budget-to-actual and audit-ready reporting packages.

Radian Capital — CFO. A billion-dollar growth equity firm investing in technology and technology-enabled businesses. Kelly led Radian's finance and operations as the firm grew from 8 to nearly 30 employees and the structure expanded from one fund to six fund entities, collaborated with tax advisers on strategy and compliance, and created and implemented the policies and procedures behind Radian's successful registration as an investment adviser with the SEC.​​​​​

 

ThornTree Capital — CFO and CCO. A half-billion-dollar global long/short fund. Kelly led a finance and operations team of six across five fund entities, managed the firm's prime broker relationships, and worked closely with the head trader on daily trade and cash management.

KSV Global — CFO. A Boston-based growth equity and venture capital firm founded in 2018, investing in Series B and C expansion across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Kelly established the firm's finance function from inception and designed the reporting architecture for a complex multi-entity structure.

Additional engagements have included shorter-term and project-based work for emerging managers, family offices, and early-stage operating companies.

Prior Experience

Brookside Capital, Bain Capital — Vice President of Finance. Bain Capital's multi-billion-dollar hedge fund affiliate. Kelly was responsible for accounting and finance for the Brookside funds, their investors, and the management company.

PwC — Senior Manager. Fifteen years across the Boston, Detroit, National Office and New York practices — auditing Fortune 5 companies and global asset managers, leading early adoption of Sarbanes-Oxley, and advising National Office engagement teams on complex capital structures through the onset of the 2008 financial crisis.

Accomplishments

  • Served on the task force with the SEC, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Big Four and the nine largest American banks that shaped the terms of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, and authored PwC's published guidance on TARP.

  • Led early Sarbanes-Oxley adoption at a Fortune 5 company.

  • Led the audit of a reverse IPO and merger between an investment bank and an asset management client.

  • Implemented a new accounting system at Brookside Capital, strengthening the control environment and producing reliable, timely reporting.

  • Reduced accounting and reporting cycle time by roughly half through process redesign and automation at Brookside Capital.

  • Authored and taught multiple learning and education courses for PwC and their clients.

  • Led minority & multicultural circles in multiple PwC offices which led to increased staff performance, staff retention and client engagement experiences.
